The African Imaginary was started in 2025 to spotlight contemporary creativity on the continent.
The name refers to the world that is unique to Africans, from which works of culture – music, literature, fashion, architecture, art – are created. Run by Georgia Black, The African Imaginary is an evolution of Littlegig, founded by her in 2014 and which promoted African art and culture through micro festivals. The African Imaginary expands this canvas by doing more work digitally in these four areas:
The African Imaginary Podcast
The African Imaginary Books
The African Imaginary Festivals
The African Imaginary Music
The African Imaginary is funded by Justin Letschert, the co-owner of Bio-Oil.
